The Loxone Owner's Maintenance Checklist
A short list of the things that quietly keep a Loxone system healthy: backups you can actually restore from, firmware you update safely, credentials you don't lose track of, and a few seasonal habits. Nothing here requires opening a panel or touching wiring.
Backups
- Export a full config backup from Loxone Config at least once a quarter.
- Store the backup somewhere other than the Miniserver itself, a laptop, cloud drive, or external drive.
- After any real change (new rooms, new rules, a rewired scene), export again, don't rely on the old copy.
- Open the backup file once in a while to confirm it isn't zero bytes or corrupted.
Firmware
- Check the current firmware version before starting any update, note it down.
- Always back up your config before updating firmware, updates can occasionally reset settings.
- Read the release notes for the version you're moving to, some updates change app behavior.
- Update during a low-traffic window (not while guests are over or you're relying on automations).
Credentials and access
- Know your three account types: Administrator, User, and Guest, and who has each.
- Store your admin login somewhere secure (a password manager, not a sticky note).
- Review guest and app access periodically, remove anyone who no longer needs it (old contractors, previous tenants).
- Never share your admin password over text or email, use the app's built-in user invite instead.
SD card and storage health
- Miniservers log activity to an internal SD card, it has a finite lifespan.
- If you notice repeated reboots or the system 'forgetting' recent changes, storage wear can be the cause.
- This is a job for your installer, not a DIY swap, flag it early rather than waiting for a full failure.
Monitoring and alerts
- Confirm you're actually receiving system notifications (app push, email, or Telegram if you use LoxPilot).
- Test a notification path periodically, silent failures are the most common way alerts go unnoticed.
- Know who gets notified if you're traveling, a family member, your installer, or both.
Seasonal
- Before travel, review away/vacation scenes and confirm lighting, climate, and irrigation are set correctly.
- At each season change, walk through your scenes, a summer scene left active in winter wastes energy.
- Check exterior sensors and cameras before storm season, debris and weather can affect readings.
- Revisit automation schedules twice a year, sunrise and sunset times drift enough to matter.
